02 / Space & story

A room can hold a world.

Family, class and desire shape the world Alex wrote and directed in āh. For Samir Kawas’s Jabbara, his contribution was production design. In Vincent J’s Enchantress, existing coastal spaces meet Roman and Phoenician imagery. These films connect through the worlds they inhabit, while Alex’s responsibility changes from one to the next.

Directing one film. Designing the world of another.

03 / Identity & belonging

Who gets to belong?

Interwoven’s question of identity moves into the imagined documents of Perceiving Nationhood. Three passports propose competing national identities; terminal x layers photographic imagery, colour and text. Faces, words and official-looking forms become different ways of reading belonging.

04 / Authorship & collaboration

A practice also takes other forms.

For Elias Bou-Issa’s lkelLmét, Alex designed the cover and title lettering. With The Striped Hyenas, he developed Hyam’s identity and digital presence. Each project begins with a different person, audience and responsibility.

An author’s book and a commissioned identity.

Through an artwork, a film or a collaboration, the questions change scale.
