Biography
Carmen Labaki is a Lebanese-Brazilian documentary director, producer and journalist. Her films examine cultural histories, migration and the connections between Lebanon and other parts of the world. Her work includes Armenians of Lebanon, the series Le monde au Liban and Reencontro, sementes do cedro, presented at São Paulo’s Museu da Imigração in 2025.

Approach & practice
In a 2024 conversation about Le monde au Liban, Labaki described a process grounded in interviews, library research and visits to the places her films explore. Personal testimony and emotional connection guide the way she brings cultural history to the screen.
